Into the lunar New Year with big trout and more storms

Trout and powder and seabass
Saw that the seabass have started to show up at Catalina or at least go on the bite again. Must be getting on towards Fred Hall time. Meanwhile I've been getting reports from my bros up north and they've been getting into big trout and steelhead.
My brother Bob sent a text before the storms hit that, since there was no powder, he'd been spending his days off in the Truckee River and getting into some fat rainbow trout. Of course lately he's had all kinds of powder to carve up at Northstar
Jim Mitchell called just after he got off the plane in Mammoth after the flight from San Jose. He was fishing up in Oregon with a guide on "some river with a French name" and caught and released a bright 37-inch buck on the fly. "The fish did everything just right to let us catch it -- long runs upstream with big jumps," Mitchell noted, who then claimed he was only in town for the $10 special dinner at the Double Eagle every Wednesday, not the impending dumps of pow.
Then Bob Hoose of Pure Fishing called and he said he had the biggest trout of his life on for 15 minutes up at the Fin and Feather Club in Palmdale while fishing with Mike Arujo, who's a member. "It was 14 pounds easy and on two-pound test it pulled as good any fish I ever hooked," said Hoose. "We got there late in the morning and were done with our limits by 11:30. I hooked the fish on a new Berkley bait that was worked up off the 'mouse' combo. We had a blast."
This morning Mark Gasich called from his house on the Winchuk in Oregon and reported the rivers were up and dropping into perfect shape after the rains and that the recent storm had left a colder version. "We got 4 or 5 inches of snow, the ground is covered and the trees are loaded," he said. "I just talked to Harvey Young and on his first run this morning on the upper Chetco he had two steelhead.
More storms are on the way and that's a good thing. Let's get our water now and then have a great spring. Meanwhile, trout and turns don't sound bad.
