South Lake Fish Report 05-29-07

Action at the Slide and the west shore was hot early last week although fishing slowed down a bit on Friday and Saturday. Some anglers attributed the slowdown to the moon phase while others blamed the fishing pressure we saw for the holiday weekend and Mule days. In any case, the bite started to pick up Sunday afternoon and once the holiday crowd started home Monday, that trend continued. Top fish out of South Lake this week was a 6lb 10oz rainbow caught by the father - daughter team of Chris & Taylor Cummings of Tehachapi, CA. They fooled the Alper on a gray trout trap. Other notable catches out of South Lake this week was a 6lb 3oz rainbow landed by Pat McCall of Hemit, CA on a roostertail and a 4lb 1oz fish caught by Doug De La Garza of San Juan Capistrano using nightcrawlers.
On Thursday May 24th, South Lake received a monster plant of Alpers trout in the 4lb to 8lb class courtesy of Southern California Edison (Thanks guys!). The low water level at South Lake required a bucket brigade method of getting the fish to the water as quickly as possible with four South Lake staffers and both Alpers stocking truck operators cooperating to get the job done. A handful of these fish came out over the weekend but the majority of them were slow to acclimate to the cold water so the fishing in the coming weeks should improve with lots of trophies coming out of South Lake. South Lake boat landing currently has 10 rentals available and we're planning to have a few of our Pontoons in the water by the third week of June.

Hey guys, I received word today that South Lake in the Bishop Creek Canyon will receive a huge Alpers plant courtesy of our friends at Southern California Edison just in time for the holiday weekend. These fish will be in the 4 to 8lb class and the number of fish is almost four times what we'd normally see when Tim Alpers stops by with his trophy rainbows. South Lake Boat Landing will have the entire fleet of aluminum fishing boats on...... Read More
