Shogun Sportfishing Trip Update (091410)
9-15-2010
Bill Roecker
CEDROS GOING STRONG (091410)!!! The Western Sports Shop trip aboard Shogun returned September 14 when owner Norm Kagawa tied up at Fisherman's Landing after the five-day trip with 26 anglers. Richard Birnbaum of the Shop was chartermaster, and caught his first White Seabass in 40 years for one of the jackpot spots. He said another angler aboard had his first Biscuit in 50 years.
Jim Pletcher of Mill Valley won first place in the jackpot for a 39.2-pound Yellowtail, which also won the Rollo Jackpot. He said he got the big Forkie with a sardine on a 3/0 ringed Owner Mutu hook tied to 40-pound Seaguard fluorocarbon, 50-pound Izorline and 65-pound Power Pro spectra. He fished with an Avet JX reel and a six and a half-foot Loomis rod.
Bryan Uyesagi of Novato won second place for a 35.3-pound Yellowtail.
Most of the fish caught on the trip went into processor's bins when it came off the boat, so a lineup shot of the three best fish weighed at the landing's scales had Min Kang of LA at left with a 34-pound Yellow, Jeff Liu of Alameda in the center with a 35-pound Yellow and chartermaster Birnbaum at right with his third-place winning 33.2-pound White Seabass.
Richard said he got his white with squid on a Matsui ringed 3/0 hook sunk with a one-ounce slip sinker.
