Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

7-15-2010
Larry Edwards

The overall billfish bite has slowed for the Puerto Morelos area but the wide-variety catches continue. This area seems to produce a different specie of fish for every bite and truly keeps the angler's interest level at a peak. The Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet reported in for 22 days fished and reflected a 15 fish smorgasbord that included 1 sailfish, 7 Atlantic barracuda, 6 king mackerel, 1 jack cravelle, 2 amberjack, 1 blue runner, 8 yellowfin tuna, 6 dorado, 1 wahoo, 3 shark, 101 bonito, 2 triggerfish, 1 red snapper, 6 grouper and 7 black skipjack tuna.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with an occasional night time rain shower, temps from 77 nights to 91 daytime highs and humid.

Sea Conditions: Overall, very good for the week with sea temps holding stable at 83-84 degrees and light tropical easterly surface winds.

Best bait: Continues to be the rigged and un-rigged ballyhoo for all of the various fish.
