Lake Sabrina Fishing Report

Lake Sabrina Boat Landing Staff
Trolling flashers and a NightCrawler, Red & Gold Thomas Buoyant, or Kastmaster were working for those that like to keep moving. Fishing the inlets - DingleBerry (back right-hand corner), Little George (back left-hand corner) and George (about 100 yards north of Little George) with NightCrawlers, PowerBait & Salmon Eggs. Got a report from Ed Webb who said "We did very well fishing on a sandy shelf using salmon eggs on the bottom" - they were back at the DingleBerry Inlet. Another email report from Bryan states "We walked the entire length of the dam and fished the spillway with great success. We caught all of our trout on PowerBait" - so shore fishing with Salmon Eggs and PowerBait what's working. Still getting stocked by the Department of Fish & Game.
A few bigger fish came out of the Lake this week. Daniel Stern of Danville landed a nice 3 pounder on a NightCrawler, while Brenan Munoz of OrangeCounty caught a 2-1/2 pounder on Green PowerBait. Owen Foster was on his first fishing trip along with his family and managed to catch his first fish and Chase Cracraft of Ridgecrest landed a splendid 3-1/4lb Alper on a Thomas Buoyant.
Three days left till the end of the June Derby, don't forget to register if you're coming up this month. Tagged fish (some of those tagged fish are ALPERS) will be placed in Lake Sabrina, South Lake, Intake II, Weir Pond and the stream of Bishop Creek Canyon. The fish tags correspond to pre-determined cash prizes worth $30 to $300 each. Fish must be caught between June 1st and June 30th.
The entrance fee is $5.00 / kids under 12 FREE. Enter by June 15th for double entry into the raffle. All DFG rules for fishing apply. Contestants can enter at Culver's ~ Mac's ~ Bishop Creek Lodge ~ Creekside RV Park ~ Parchers Resort ~ South Lake Boat Landing ~ Cardinal Village Resort ~ Bishop Chamber of Commerce and Lake Sabrina Boat Landing. Contestants must bring tag and proof of registration to the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce to claim prize. If you have any questions in regards to the Derby, please contact Tawni at 760-873-8405. You can check www.weather.gov and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com.
The North Lake Campground is now open. The price this year to camp at the Forestry campgrounds are $21.00. The only USFS campground that accepts reservations is Four Jeffery. There 31 sites available for reservations: you can book on-line at www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. All other campsites at Four Jeffery and the other campgrounds are first come, first served. There is a full hook-up RV campground - Creekside RV park which is on the road to South Lake. Remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen. You've got that sun coming at you in ALL directions and the rays from the snow are deadly! Haven't seen too many of those skeeters yet, but best come prepared with some bug juice - just in case. Also, remember when applying sunscreen, bug juice or any other fu-fu juice. The juice you apply will taint your tackle and bait.
Lake Sabrina Boat Landing has gone to summer hours. That means we'll be opening at 7:00am and stay open until 7:00pm. The Café is now open daily for Breakfast at 7:00am to 11:00am with lunch being served from 11:00am to 4:00pm. We have homemade pie, sodas, beer, wine, coffee, tea and hot cocoa.
