Lake Sabrina Fish Report

6-6-2010
Lake Sabrina Boat Landing Staff

The snow is definitely melting around the lake and in the back-country. The DingleBerry Waterfall is roaring and kicking up lots of mist and dumping tons of water into the lake which is rising at a rate of about 2-1/2 feet in a 24-hour period and that rate seems to be increasing by the hour.

Special thanks to the Bishop Chamber of Commerce & to Inyo County for Co-Sponsoring the event and to all prize donors. Along with hopefully the Alpers, the Department of Fish and Game plans to stock LakeSabrina with the first stocking of the season. The fishing was good until Saturday when it slowed a bit. Fishing the inlets (there seems to be a lot of little streams running into the lake) with NightCrawlers, Salmon Eggs or PowerBait produced quite a few limits as did using jigs tipped with a mealworm in the bays and coves. Those trolling were using lures along the shore and those on shore were using Salmon Eggs and PowerBait. Local Bishop Brown-Bagger George Kirby was at it again this week besting his Brown catch of last week by 2 pounds - yup - this week it was a 4-1/2 pound Brown once again caught on an AC Plug. Steve Lawrence of Agoura Hills caught a nice 1-1/4 pound Rainbow on PowerBait.

Once again, the California High School Rodeo Association 2010 State Finals will be held in Bishop June 14 - 19 at the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds. It is truly a pleasure to deal with these kids - so very very polite. If your not doing anything in the evening during that week, head to the fairgrounds Monday thru Friday at 6:00pm or Saturday at 7:00pm and support these athletes in their quest to represent California at the National Finals! General Admission - $5.00.

No snow last week and the temps are forecast to climb up into the upper 70s for highs and the lows in the mid 50s. You can check www.weather.gov and enter Aspendell, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com Not sure if the North Lake campground is opened yet, we'll take a drive up there this week. The price this year to camp at the Forestry campgrounds are $21.00. The only USFS campground that accepts reservations is Four Jeffery. There 31 sites available for reservations: you can book on-line at www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. All other campsites at Four Jeffery and the other campgrounds are first come, first served. There is a full hook-up RV campground - Creekside RV park which is on the road to South Lake. Remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen. You've got that sun coming at you in all directions and the rays from the snow are deadly. wash you hands after applying sunscreen, bug juice or any other fu-fu juice. The juice you apply will taint your tackle and bait. You know it tastes yucky, the fish think it tastes yucky, too, although have you ever tasted PowerBait or Worms - to each their own.

Lake Sabrina Boat Landing has gone to SUMMER hours. That means we'll be opening at 7:00am and stay open until 7:00pm. The Café is now open daily for Breakfast at 7:00am to 11:00am with Lunch being served from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
