East Cape Fishing Report

"We went down to 15 pound fluorocarbon and #6 hooks to finally get a bite," he said. "The larger fish would break us off on the barnacles that were growing on the bottoms of the docks!"

Mark Rayor reported good fishing if you were prepared to go for it. Ben Secrest, of Accurate Reels, apparently was. First he ran up to Punta Perico to find some sardina. While there, they limited out on pargo and cabrilla, since the bite outside had been slow. Then heading south close to shore, they landed five good-sized roosters in an hour.

Rayor reported that he found snook under the docks of the San Jose del Cabo Marina. There were some quality-sized fish but they were very line shy. "We went down to 15 pound fluorocarbon and #6 hooks to finally get a bite," he said. "The larger fish would break us off on the barnacles that were growing on the bottoms of the docks!"

Meanwhile, later in the week, the first boats to find the schools of porpoise, also found larger yellowfin, but as more boats arrived, the bite would shut off and it was 'run and gun' some more. While there seems to be a good number of marlin in the area, they are not biting very well. Few, if any, schools of dorado are being found.
