Update on Lake Casitas Set for Trout Stocking

Roughly 4,500 pounds of rainbow trout will be released into Lake Casitas on Tuesday, March 16, and Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at about 1:00 p.m. The majority of the fish will weigh in at 1-2 pounds each but some will weigh as much as 3 to 12 pounds. The Lake Casitas Recreation Area purchased them from Desert Springs Trout Hatchery in Oregon. "This sizable trout stocking will offer anglers the best sport fishing in the region for some time,†said Rob Weinerth, Park Services Officer. The introduction of additional trout enhances the recreational fishing experience and increases the possibility that a new record trout will be caught. The current weight record at Lake Casitas is a 9.25 pound trout caught in 1985.

Park user fees fund all park operations and maintenance at Lake Casitas Recreation Area. As an Enterprise Fund facility, the lake is mandated to generate sufficient revenue to cover all operating expenses with no subsidy of taxpayer or ratepayer dollars.

As a reminder, Lake Casitas Recreation Area accepts camping reservation requests up to 180 days in advance. At this time reservations are being accepted for weekends and the following Holidays: Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. Additionally, reservations can be made for the Casitas Water Adventure.
