(February 22, 2010 -- San Bernardino, CA) Throughout trout season, San Bernardino County Regional Parks has offered workshops to teach children ages 5 through 11 how to fish. The final Junior Fishing Workshop of the season is scheduled for March 6th at Yucaipa Regional Park.

Fishing is not only a skill but an exercise in patience. In today's hurried, technologically geared lifestyle, it is a sport that allows one to unplug and go back to simpler times; standing on a lake or river bank with a rod and reel, some bait waiting for fish to bite.

Throughout the season over 210 children have attended the workshops that have been held at Yucaipa, Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen and Mojave Narrows Regional Parks.

Instructors teach the parts of the fishing pole, how to tie a line, the type of baits to use and children are given two hours to test their new skills.

"My children have attended the Junior Fishing Workshops for the past two years," said Jesse Sanders of Redlands. "It's very educational; and the volunteer instructors are extremely patient and great with the children."

The last junior fishing workshop will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday March 6 at Yucaipa Regional Park, 33900 Oak Glen Road, Yucaipa. Registration is $5 per child. There is a $10 vehicle entry fee at the park. For additional information or to register your child call (909) 387-2461.
