Lake Hours: 6:45am to 4:00pm

Weather: The weather has been moderate. 40's in the morning and up to the 70's in the afternoon.

BASS

It has been becoming increasingly hard to catch bass at DVL due to decreasing surface temps, but there were some great bass reports this week. Bass have been caught as deep as 50 feet on underspins, ice jigs, and, Carolina rigged 9-16 inch worms. Shore anglers had the toughest time for largemouth with most catches being on swimbaits on the west shore. Boaters have been deepwater fishing off the points for best results. Richard Laughery got his two biggest bass at 4.77 and 5.44 pounds fishing from shore with a Krocodile and a spinnerbait.

TROUT

There have been few complaints from trout fisherman at DVL. Whether they were fishing from shore or boat, trout anglers have been satisfied. Powerworms. Nightcrawlers, Powerbait, and mini jigs have been the most reported trout baits. Four year old Izabella Gwizdak of Cypress caught a 10 pound limit of trout fishing the west shoreline with nightcrawlers. Three year old stone smith of Hemet caught a 5.17 pound trout fishing from shore with Powerbait. Pedro Moreno of Buena Park caught a 5.40 pound trout fishing from shore with Powerbait. Frank Fernando of San Bernardino caught his biggest trout at 4.5 pounds fishing from shore with flukes. Devon Padilla of Hemet caught a 7.60 pound trout fishing from shore with a mini jig.

STRIPER

The deluge of DFG and Lassen trout made it the perfect week for striper anglers. Zplugs, LA sliders, and Lunker Punkers accounted for most catches. Shore anglers ad boaters did well this week. Craig Garrison of Sacramento caught a 14.46 pound striper fishing from shore with a Lunker Punker. Yvonne Southerland of Fontana caught a 13 pound striper fishing the north side of the lake with a Zplug. Jesse Mena of Hemet caught three stripers at 15.03, 14.97, and 26.23 pounds fishing near the east dam with a Lunker Punker. Charlie dick of Moreno Valley caught a 17.5 pound striper fishing along the west dam with a Huddleston. Andy Sibounhom of Escondido caught an 18.5 pound striper fishing with a Castaic swimbait. Markus Sanchez of Hemet caught a 15 pound striper fishing from shore with an LA slider. Jason Walsh of Temecula busted the long standing DVL striper record with a 30.87 pound record. Jason was fishing with a custom plug on the mid lake point.

CATFISH

There were some decent catfish caught this week mostly on the west side of the lake. Mackerel or anchovies have been the most reported baits. Jake Altamirano of Fontana caught an 8.5 pound striper fishing from shore with a nightcrawlers. Ernesto Vaasques of Riverside caught an 8.5 pound cat fishing from shore with shrimp.

PANFISH

There were no panfish reports this week and it will more than likely remain slow until the spring.

LAKE RECORDS

Lake Record Striper January 3, 2010: Jason Walsh of Temecula busted the long standing DVL striper record with a 30.87 pound record. Jason was fishing with a custom plug on the mid lake point.
Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: Mike Long of Poway, 16.43 lb bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.
Lake Record Crappie: 3.0 pounds landed by Keith Thomas. He was fishing with shad.
Lake Record Blue Gill: Michael Wolf of Redondo Beach caught a 3.45 pound bluegill fishing with trout Krilla near the rock quarry.
Lake Record Catfish October 29, 2008: Jason Walsh, of Temecula, caught a 42.56 pound catfish using an LA Slider near the inlet tower.
Lake Record Trout, March 14, 2009: Andrew Aralos of Hemet caught a 15.45 pound trout. He was fishing with Powerbait near the east dam
Lake Record Trout, December 3, 2008: Cesar Cruz of Hemet holds the DVL trout record at 15.06 pounds. He was fishing on the north corner of the east dam with a Thomas Buoyant lure.
