Bass

Bass did not disappoint this week. Swim baits were brining in some quality fish this week. Z -Plugs, California Swimbabes, and Huddlestons were the most reported baits. Drop shotting plastics remained a mainstay for a 15-20 fish day. Ice jig reports were still coming through as a valid technique for deep fishing. The east dam, the west dam, shore line fishing, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales for those looking for bass.

Trout

Trout fishing was rather slow this week even with a 2000 pound plant. Most trout were caught from 10-25 feet near the marina mainly along the shoreline fishing area, but the holdover trout were not showing. Kastmasters, mini jigs, Power Worms, and nightcrawlers were all seducing the trout. Devon Padilla of Hemet caught a 7.60 pound trout fishing from shore with a mini jig. Lewis Putnam of San Jacinto caught a 3.85 pound trout fishing with a Rapala along the west dam John Boatman of Yucaipa caught a 3.85 pound trout fishing with a nightcrawlers from the shore.

Striper

Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits were the most reported lures for striper. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing points near the marina or on the west dam is advised. Taylotr Happe of Valley Center caught his first fish ever a 15.18 pound striper fishing with a homemade lure near the west dam. Tim Merrifield pf Poway caught a 14.47 pound striper fishing from shore with a Lunker Punker. Dusty Parker of Cherry Valley caught a 14.46 pound striper fishing with a Lunker Punker from the east shore. Saydene Boundleat of Riverside caught a 15.15 pound striper fishing with a Lunker Punker. Bill Burns of Moreno Valley caught a 10.10 pound striper trolling a Rapala along the west dam. Jason Pae of Los Angeles caught a 16.3 pound striper fishing from shore with a swimbait.

Catfish

Catfish are still lively at DVL. Best bet is the rock quarry or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. Ernesto Vasquez of Riverside caught an 8.5 pound cat fishing from shore with shrimp.

Panfish

The panfish bite is on the decline and will continue to drop in conjunction with surface temps. Jigs, nightcrawlers, and, mealworms are typical baits for panfish with the dams being the best spots.

Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.
Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: Mike Long of Poway, 16.43 lb bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.
Lake Record Crappie: 3.0 pounds landed by Keith Thomas. He was fishing with shad.
Lake Record Blue Gill: Michael Wolf of Redondo Beach caught a 3.45 pound bluegill fishing with trout Krilla near the rock quarry.
Lake Record Catfish October 29, 2008: Jason Walsh, of Temecula, caught a 42.56 pound catfish using an LA Slider near the inlet tower.
Lake Record Trout, March 14, 2009: Andrew Aralos of Hemet caught a 15.45 pound trout. He was fishing with Powerbait near the east dam.
