Anchor Line Wrap

Frank LoPreste brought his ten-day Accurate trip anglers home to Fisherman's Landing December 10. Kevin Leong was chartermaster.

Jim Border of La Canada had the big fish, a kite-caught tuna that wasn't eligible for the jackpot. He stood in with the winners with his 242-pound yellowfin.

"My best fish before was a 225-pounder I got at Clipperton," he told dock reporter Bill Roecker.

"This one took 45 minutes, and he took a lot of line at first. I got it back and he went up to the bow. He got wrapped once on the anchor line, and we gaffed him up there."

Chico Leonard won first and third in the jackpot for tuna of 154 and 142 pounds. He said he fished sardines on 5/0 ringed Super Mutu hooks for those. He used 100-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 130-pound Line One Spectra on a Tiagra 30 reel and a Calstar 765 H rod. The big fish fought him for 30 minutes.

Lane Garrett of Crowley Lake (he's manager there) won third place for a 144-pound yellowfin tuna.
