Rick Kelly docked Intrepid at Point Loma Sportfishing December 8 after an 11-day International Cow Club charter to southern Baja. The trip saw heavy winds and rough waters on the ride back up the line.
Ron Freeland of Yorba Linda won the jackpot for a 193-pound tuna he got with a sardine and a 4-ounce sinker, 6/0 Owner hook, 100-pound monofilament and 130-pound spectra backing. "It was the boat's gear," he said.
Marc Schmidt of Eureka won second place for a 157-pound yellowfin. It was Marc's second long range trip. Marc's first trip landed him on the cover of this year's Intrepid brochure with his 350-pound tuna.
"I gained a few pounds," he said. "I've found out that you can always count on Chef Javier."
Scott Chapman of Mira Loma won third place for a 106.6-pounder.
