Spring YELLOWTAIL Action on the FREEDOM

4-30-2007
David Sumethasom

The Freedom departed Sunday the 29 of April to get in on some great Yellowtail fishing at San Clemente Island. The day before had some great fishing with 2-5 fish a rod. The anticipation was high for our 1-day trip out of 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro. The "Ultra" and a few other boats had great Yellowtail fishing the day before, and our passengers were anxious to get a start on the 2007 yellowtail season. The day was a great one with awesome weather to boot! The fish were scattered due to some heavier boat traffic, but Skipper Tom Lee made the right move and put us on some fish. The Yellows were partial to the Iron despite our tanks of live squid. They were especially eating the Salas 6X Jr. in Green/Yellow or Scrambled Egg. Blue and white was simply not getting bit.

The bite died off mid-day, and we moved out to the rockfish grounds for some bottom action. The days final count: 26 Yellowtail, 42 Calicos, 100 Rockfish, 22 Red Rock Cod, 21 Whitefish and 30 Sheephead. The Freedom is set to depart for daily 1-day trips and multi-day trips throughout the season. For future 1-day and multi-day trips, call 22nd Street Landing at 310-832-8304.

Semper Fish!
