BASS
Anglers adapt to be apt at catching a mass of bass. The bait went deep so fish were its steep. Pummel the points or be an island hopper to get a keeper or even a whopper. Fishing at 40 or 50 feet with an ice jig, drop shot, or Carolina rig can't be beat. Bass are biting drastic on plastic. Fish a straight tail, brush hog, or big worm to nail a lunker largemouth. Don't get nervous the trout will bring bass to the surface. Slam the east dam with big baits to bring in a bass on the blitz. Jared Esquivel of Hacienda Heights caught a 5.4 pound bass fishing with an oxblood worm on the east dam.
TROUT
There ain't a complaint about the trout. From boat or shore you can catch limit in a minute. What bait to buy? Crawlers, Powerbait, and mini jigs are the way to spend your dollars. Hot spots? The marina cove is a treasure trove to catch a loco 'bow. The east dam is a grand slam to hook a stout trout. John Roth of Sun City caught a 6.24 pound trout fishing in the marina cove with Chartreuse Powerbait. Richie Perez of Murrieta caught 3 trout each at 2 pounds fishing with Chartreuse Powerbait in the marina cove. Sebastian Flores of Murrieta caught a 12 pound limit fishing with rainbow Powerbait in the marina cove. Miguel Perez of Murrieta caught a 10 pound limit fishing from shore with rainbow Powerbait. Glen Slaten of Fallbrook caught a 5.14 pound trout fishing near the north corner of the east dam with a crappie jig. Keino Ford of Hemet caught a 8.32 pound trout fishing with Powerbait. Bud Weaver of Ontario caught a 4.83 pound trout fishing with a Rapala in the quarry. Jared Esquivel of Hacienda Heights caught a 10.51 pound limit fishing with oxblood Roboworms. Randoan Crayton of Sun City caught a 4.11 pound trout fishing the west shoreline.
STRIPER
Striper fishing is a cakewalk after the trout stock. Big baits are braining in some big weights. The east dam has been a traffic jam for those trying to blindside a lineside. What kind of lure to get a striper for sure? Lunker Punkers, LA sliders, Zplugs, Huddlestons, and BBZ are some to pick that'll do the trick. Alan Jaquias of Hermosa Beach caught a 11.5 pound striper on a BBZ. Steve Chatwood of Yucaipa caught two striper at 9.9 and 13.9 pounds fishing with a swimbait on the east dam. Eric Young of Redlands caught a 12.9 pound striper fishing with a BBZ on the east dam. Dean Miller of Riverside caught a 5.26 pound striper fishing with nightcrawlers at the inlet tower. Dusty Parker of Cherry Valley caught two striper at 15.28 and 15.87 pounds fishing with a Lunker Punker on the east shoreline.
CATFISH
There were few catfish reports this week, but that is not to say you can't get a fat cat. Fishing for a channel or blue it is cut bait the cats will pursue. Anchovies, Mackerel or shrimp won't leave your line limp. The attenuator is the best place to anchor to catch a cat just like that. Nestor Zapata of Oceanside caught an 8.35 pound cat fishing with Powerbait in the third cove of the west shoreline.
PANFISH
Pan-fish anglers are wishing for better fishing. The pan-fish bite has slowed to a stop as surface temps continue to drop. It is nil on the bluegill, but the crappie is spotty. Joni Shandera of El Cajon caught a 1.36 pound crappie fishing with a jig on the east marina point.
