Lake Mohave Stripers
9-18-2024
Rusty
Our visiting anglers, Les Kern and Steve Berczik, were trolling near the power lines on the Nevada side and landed some impressive stripers. The larger striper weighed 9.5 pounds and measured 29.5 inches, while the other was 8.02 pounds and 27.5 inches. They were using a white jig and Storm bait, which have been effective for striper fishing on Lake Mohave.
Below the Davis Dam, anchovies seem to be the best bait. The lower end of Community Park has been a popular spot for anglers, with various openings providing access to the river. The nature center area is producing stripers and some smallmouth bass, while Rotary Park has recently stocked rainbow trout to address the caddis fly issue.
Our trout season starts the first week of October. However, the "Your First Fish" event will take place on the last Saturday of September (the 28th this year), giving young anglers the chance to catch a fish. We’ll have experienced helpers on hand to guide them on how to reel in their catch and bait the hooks. Fishing poles will be available, and I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
Remember, anglers under 10 do not require a license, while those aged 10 to 18 need a $5 annual license.
We hope to see you soon to share your stories and catches!
