Rusty
Our local Mohave High fishing club, mentored by Gary Regan, features Donovan Barry, Dominic Sercu, Kade Djuth, Jason Barela, Miquel and Luis Cvellar, Russell Mynk, Evan Pilling, Grant Mynk, Jacqueline Barela, and Jessica, Gunner, and Aubnella Sercu. They recently caught some nice stripers while fishing along the Colorado River, just below Davis Dam.
The striper bite is doing well, with decent catches reported near the casino area and Community Park. The Big Bend and Rotary Park areas have seen slightly better results. Word is the Nature Center has also been a good spot to try.
On Lake Mohave, trolling has been working best, with swim baits and umbrella rigs proving effective. Anglers are having to search for fish, but there are plenty of stripers in the lake. As the shad begin to form larger schools, keep an eye out for boils, ripples in the water, or bird activity—these are signs the fish are pushing the baitfish to the surface.
A reminder: our "First Fish" event for kids is coming up on the 28th at Rotary Park. The event will begin with special needs fishing, followed by opportunities for others to catch their first fish. We'll have some fishing poles and bait available. Parents, bring your kids! Our experienced anglers will be there to assist in landing their first catch. We also hope to teach the kids how to clean fish and tie knots. More details will follow as we get closer to the event.
Thanks for all the support, and as always—go catch a fish!
