Not the ideal conclusion we were looking for as yellowtail in significant numbers were hard to come by. We most certainly saw them, in particular early for quite a distance, but they showed near zero interest in what we had to offer. That said the day was far from a bust. Stunning scenery and weather added exponential value to the effort. And the variety fishing, with an occasional trophy and exotic in the mix, kept all engaged and focused at the rail. Good times. Ending the day anchored in a spectacular protected setting we wet a few more lines, picked a few more dandy yellowtail, and enjoyed a delicious meal most certainly enhanced by the flat calm. Afterwards preparations for the ride north began. Though the forecast is far from rugged conditions will certainly reacquaint all with the “motion of the ocean” and stand in stark contrast to the prior four days of near flat calm. Ethan picked off this beautiful, 42 pound White Sea Bass on the fly lined sardine amidst wide open Calico Bass. Royal Star friend and Charter Master Ross Myers landed his 35 pound class trophy yellowtail through quite an array of obstacles and structure thanks in large part to the knife like qualities of spectra line.
