“It’s always something”. An old refrain frequently cited in the world of fishing assigning blame for the near perpetual lack of perfect results. Once in a great while however reality is thwarted and fantasy becomes real. Perfection while fishing on the high seas is achieved. No wind, no poor conditions, no sharks, no birds, no sea lions, no unwanted incidentals pestering the effort; the list goes on. None of those obstacles, or any others, were present today. Clean fishing for highly aggressive 40-70 pound yellowfin put anglers to the test until, to the last man, they were beaten, battered, and blissfully spent. In glorious, flat calm waters another “day of days” was achieved. Adding to the memories of what has already been a stretch of fishing in these zones incomparable with almost everything in the past twenty five years the scope of our good fortune is not lost on any of us. Relishing every minute we departed from paradise well short of limits but freighting exactly what this group of seasoned veterans sought. All day action as good as it gets on beautiful grade yellowfin until physical exhaustion shut it down. The fish were sad to see us go eager to keep the party rolling. But we were done, cooked, spent. Heaven sent we made a restorative move setting up a beautiful night on the anchor where those with a penchant for night time fishing had a chance to try their hand. Tomorrow and beyond will be a variety affair looking to expand the species list and add in a little scenery along the way. Photos shared are action shots snapped throughout the morning. Gettin’ ‘em!
