This was a great day. Not because we added more fish volume to the RSW tanks. Those departments are well stocked. It was a day of pure fishing for fun adding a big challenge with a few highly coveted opportunities at trophy class yellows. In the interim legendary caliber fishing for calico bass and coastal varieties entertained and satisfied. Throw in a couple handfuls of tasty halibut amidst stunning scenery, beautiful surroundings, and perfect weather and the day is logged among those cherished for all the right reasons. 

It is days like these that manifest the fisherman in those who love the art and practice of fishing no matter the quarry. Angler’s that three days prior were in the big leagues reefing on beautiful yellowfin tuna offshore were like a bunch of giddy kids hurling surface irons and everything else hooting and grinning ear to ear while catch and releasing seemingly endless Calico Bass. Good times and good fun for all; exactly as we hoped for. 

Photo today features a bona fide spectacular achievement that 100% enters the “fish of a lifetime” record books. Royal Star veteran angler and dear friend Tommy Walker pulled off the feat using the long rod and surface iron when we pulled up alongside a coastal kelp line. Seeing a few jumbo yellows emerge from the kelp Tommy made the perfect cast and connected with a monster. Fifteen minutes later, after navigating an incredible shallow water obstacle course full of rocks and kelp, Tommy’s 63 pound trophy yellowtail was hoisted aboard. What a beast, and beautiful fish. Congratulations to Tommy and the boys on an outstanding performance and achievement. Job well done!
