Day At the Docks

4-15-2007
Bill Roecker

Next Sunday will be the 28th annual Day at the Docks, produced Catherine Miller and the San Diego Sportfishing Council. This cherished event is also supported by the County and the Port. It makes for a family outing, with entertainment and fun for all ages. It's best to go early for a close place to park.

Tours of many sport boats will be available. Some boats will offer free brief harbor tours. The day begins at nine a.m. and runs to five on the afternoon of April 22. Rows of booths will provide visitors with information and shopping for all fishing-related items from newspapers to reel repair; from free fishing in pens for kids to fishing art and dolphin jewelry; from bratwurst to live music from the Thursday Night Fishing Club and seminars on tackle and techniques. Fishing tackle will be on sale at numerous locations.

Fisherman's Landing will be selling tackle both inside and outside the store, and owner Bill Poole will be there to sign his new book for buyers. Admission is free, and free parking will be available at Shelter Island, with free shuttle rides to the largest west coast festival of its type.
