In the Upper Kern flows have been consistently over 2000 CFS and is very fishable. Last week, the DFWL stocked all three sections throughout the 20-mile stretch. Easy access points and deep pools around bends have been producing fish. Anglers are scoring planters and holdovers with salmon eggs, Roostertails, Panther Martins and trout jigs. Fly anglers are seeing good action with attractor nymphs and streamer stripping in the late afternoons. The Upper Kern River was stocked last week in Section 4, Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park in Kernville; Section 5, Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge, and Section 6, Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge. In the Lower Kern, Democrat has been kicking out good numbers of trout. Anglers have been scoring trout at many of the easy access points along the canyon. The bass bite in the canyon remains steady. Bass have been found with jigs, worms, and small crankbaits. Catfish can be found with cut sardines and SSS Dip Bait. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River is flowing at 2430 CFS and the Lower Kern River is flowing at 1582 CFS.
