Fish Report for 5-10-2024
In the Upper Kern, the DFWL stocked all three sections this week

Chad Burton and Chris Borden
In the Upper Kern, the DFWL stocked all three sections this week. The flows have been holding around 2000 CFS most of the week with a little fluctuation. With the warmer temps this weekend, we should see the flows increase a bit more. Anglers have been scoring trout with split-shotted salmon eggs, minijigs, and spinners. Fly anglers have been doing well with nymphs, stripping streamers and dry flies later in the day. The Upper Kern River was stocked this week in Section 4, Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park in Kernville; Section 5, Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge, and Section 6, Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge. In the Lower Kern, trout have been fooled with salmon eggs, spinners and minijigs. The largemouth and smallmouth bass action has been very good in the canyon and along the stretch leading into Bakersfield. Bass have been found with jigs, worms, and small crankbaits. Catfish can be found with cut sardines and SSS Dip Bait. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River is flowing at 2162 CFS and the Lower Kern River is flowing at 1318 CFS.
