Santee Lakes Staff
What's going on everyone! We just had our annual catfish opener on the 20th and 21st of April and the UCSD fishing club, John, Gabriel, and many others managed to score over the weekend! We stocked 2,500 lbs. of catfish with some tagged fish in the mix as well. If you didn't make it out over the weekend there are still plenty of catfish out there, as well as tagged catfish, and we'll also be stocking again on the 3rd of May! A good choice for bait to have on hand would be stinkbait, garlic / regular nightcrawlers, mackerel, and shrimp.
The Spring Valley Lions Club will be hosting their 21st annual kids fishing derby here at Santee Lakes on Saturday, April 27th. Check ins start at 6:30 am, fishing goes from 7 - 11am, weigh ins for the fish that were caught begin at 10:30am. Any children 15 or under can fish for free from 7-11am and bait will be provided by the Lions Club. For the participants involved there will also be a free BBQ lunch. The Lions Club will be set up by the Kiwanis playground and Lions fishing pier on south lake 4. Best of luck to all of those who will be participating!
As for the bass, the bite is still kicking. This funky weather has slowed it down a bit, but there is still a good amount of action out there. Spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and crankbaits have all been seeing success.
