Frances Short Pond Report

10-30-2023
Arizona Game & Fish Department

Frances Short Pond suffered a fish kill due to low dissolved oxygen caused by monsoonal runoff through the Pipeline fire scar on 7/19/22 that flushed ash, sediment, and debris into the pond. The City of Flagstaff has dredged Frances Short Pond out to remove debris and sediment and the pond is currently empty. There are no plans to stock Frances Short Pond until after monsoon season. The City is concerned with additional debris and sediment that may pulse into the pond following storms on the fire scar. The department is working with the City of Flagstaff and will assess the potential for stocking as early as fall of 2023 if conditions are appropriate. The limit is 2 bass minimum size 13 inches, the limit is 4 channel catfish, the limit is 5 sunfish, the limit is 4 trout.
