TROUT: Trout fishing at Lake Camanche continues to be very good for a lot of anglers. Local fishermen Andy Anderson and Howard Bennet caught a fine limit of trout up to 3 ?? pounds using Yum's new killer trout bait-Troutkrilla. This is a dough-paste type bait, and has proven very effective in both the Lake and the Pond. They were fishing in the Causeway area, in about 25 feet of water.

Local resident Dean Wade, from Camanche, caught 2 limits of trout that weighed 42 pounds total. Their big fish was about 6.5 pounds. They were fishing in the Causeway area, in about 27 feet of water, with Power Bait. One frequent troller caught his limit of trout up to 4 ?? pounds while trolling orange grubs near Hat Island. He was trolling about 17 feet deep.

The North Shore Day Use Area continues to put out some very nice trout. Local resident, Earnest, caught a whopper that weighed in at 6.5 pounds, and he had another one bigger than that that broke off his line. He was using Power Bait and fishing from shore.

The South Shore Pond has put out a lot of really big trout this week. Larry Summers, from Stockton, caught a limit of trout with pink Power Bait on Friday, with a whopper that weighed 8.5 pounds. Scott Clukey, from Modesto, caught a huge 9.08 pound trout in the Pond, using nightcrawlers. Floyd Reeves, from Lodi, caught an 8 pounder in the Pond using a Magic Bullet.

This week's trout plant from Mt. Lassen hatchery will be 1,200 pounds, and will be planted at North Shore. These fish will average 2 ?? pounds, with many from 3 pounds up to 10 pounds.

Get ready for our Annual Charity Trout Derby. This year it runs from April 13-May 20, and is being sponsored by Yum's Troutkrilla trout bait. One $3.00 entry ticket qualifies you at each of these 4 lakes. Lake Camanche, Lake Chabot, San Pablo Reservoir, and Los Vaqueros Reservoir. All proceeds go to The American Cancer Society. Prizes include trips, tackle, cash, tickets to sporting events and much more! Tickets will be available at both marina stores, and both entry gates.

BASS: We would like to thank the Nor-Cal Bass Tournament for holding their tournament here at North Shore on Saturday. They had 23 boats go out, and 22 came back in with limits. We congratulate the winning team of Jim Moulton (Pro Division) and Mark Meidlinger (Amateur Division) for their total weight of 25.26 pounds, and Jim Moulton for his big fish at a whopping 13.56 pounds. This is the second largest ever recorded at Lake Camanche. ( The lake record for bass was set in 2003 at 14.33 pounds). Jim caught his fish on a Senko worm, and actually hooked it on another Senko, which broke his line when he set the hook. He tied on another Senko, and caught the big fish again. He was fishing the shoreline, near the dam.

Local fishing legend, Ryan Skelly, brought his Dad, Ralph out fishing during the week. They rented a boat at North Shore for 2 days, and caught and released over 20 bass up to 4 pounds. They were fishing rocky points up the river, and Ryan said that live minnows were the key. Most of their fish came in less than 10 feet of water. Local resident Bill Sullivan, from Sullivan and Son Construction, caught and released over 60 bass on Monday. He was using swim baits in perch imitation, and green pumpkin tube baits. All of his fish were shallow, and up the river. John Bilbao, from Folsom, had a great time fishing last week, so he brought 4 friends back fishing this Saturday. They caught 5 limits of bass, up to 6 pounds, and were using live crawdads, and plastic worms. Their fish were all shallow, and close to the shoreline.

CRAPPIE: The crappie bite remains good for people able to locate them. Live minnows are a favorite bait, along with mini jigs. Lancha Plana, the Causeway, and Camanche Arm are your best bets to start with. Fish remain about 20 feet deep.

We encourage all anglers to report their stories, comments, or concerns to either North Shore Store, South Shore Store, or to us by email at eporray@camancherecreation.com. Thanks again for choosing Lake Camanche for your recreation destination.
