The Little Truckee is seeing some great flows

6-30-2023
Trout Creek Outfitters

The Little Truckee is seeing some great flows with releases from Stampede the last week at 200 CFS, and as of today a slight drop down to 150. This drop may make the bite slow a bit for a day or two as the fish settle into new feeding lanes. We’re hopeful the dry fly fishing will really take off in the coming weeks because of the combination of good flows, cold water and warm weather. Expect some incredible fishing out here in the coming weeks. As is typical, we have been seeing the best luck with small tailwater bugs such as split case PMD’s, Juju Baetis, Zebra Midges, and WD-40’s. There are some bigger bugs, such as caddis and green drakes, in the system. Fishing imitations of some of these larger bugs can also produce results on the Little Truckee. With the 4th around the corner, expect this fishery to be very popular and be sure to give other anglers their space. Better yet make it a point to fish mid-week or early morning and late evening for more elbow room.
