Sac River Striper season just weeks away!
3-2-2023
Jeff Goodwin
We've been blessed with a wet winter here in Northern California and its going to make for a fantastic Striped Bass fishing season on the Lower Sacramento River! Stripers have already started their spring migration up river with excellent water conditions for the first time in 3 years. Stripers thrive in turbid water conditions which are needed for a highly successful spawning season. The more water we have in our river systems, the more Stripers we'll see migrating up river. We've already caught some Stripers up river in the Colusa area so I'm confident we'll be catching limits by the end of the month. If water conditions remain cool and turbidity prevails through spring we could see great Striper fishing in Colusa through May this year. Maybe longer if you choose to follow the Stripers to the Delta after they spawn! This is a great fishery and one of the best fishing opportunities we have to offer each year. The season is short but its one of my favorite fishing venues that we are fortunate to offer our clients every year! We use live bait during 90% of our trips and use ultra light tackle, rods, and reels each and every trip. We fish one private trip a day per boat and our group sizes vary from 2-6 anglers each day we fish. Our clients never fish with mixed groups and we don't push to get limits early so we can pick up another load of clients mid day. There's nothing wrong with mixing parties and most of the time mixed groups are fun. We just choose to cater to client groups that like to fish in a private party setting. Our trips are all about spending a relaxing day on the water with friends or family and catching some great tasting Striped Bass! Bag limits are 2 Stripers per angler exceeding 18" in length. We also catch Cat Fish, lake bass, and sometimes the incidental Sturgeon during our trips. The day of fishing only requires a general sport fishing license for the day of your trip when fishing for Striped Bass. Little or no fishing experience is required to be successful when Striper fishing with us and there's no age limit. This is a last call of sorts for our remaining available dates in April and May. I will start posting reports when we are down in Colusa daily and have more specific information to report to NCFR readers. If you have questions about our Striped Bass fishing season or would like to book a trip, please contact Jaynie at our reservation desk at (530) 510-2925. Thank you!
