Sac River steelhead/trout report
2-23-2023
Jeff Goodwin
We're in the dead of winter here in Redding California and we continue to see some pretty good steelhead/trout fishing here in town. Weather has been hard on the schedule and has caused many trips to be re scheduled the past few weeks. On the days we are able to get out, the fishing has been pretty good. There are still some salmon spawning in this section of the river and the trout have been spawning as well. The presence of salmon always means there will be an egg bite of sorts typically when they aren't feeding on aquatic insects or baby salmon that are released here in town from time to time. I like to drift beads or tiny spoons below spawning areas most months of the year but especially now. Many of the river sections in Redding have lots of exposed bank access now with flows from keswick Dam hovering around 3250 cfs. It's the perfect time for the bank anglers to get out and try their luck at catching a big wild steelhead or trout! Water color and cold temp's are perfect right now and should hold up into the forseeable future. April is the only month I won't be offering steelhead/trout drift trips in my powerboat due to a focus on our spring Striped Bass season. All other month's have trip availability through the new year and we're just a phone call away to get your trip scheduled. Jaynie can answer any other questions you may have before booking and she can be reached Mon-Sat at (530) 510-2925. Thank you!
