The fish are coming in at the annual King of the Reach (KOR) fishing derby on the Hanford reach, which is taking place today and this weekend. Where KOR differs from other derbies is that participants are helping to ensure the future of the Hanford Reach population of upriver bright fall Chinook salmon by turning over their catches to be used as broodstock to create future generations of these fish. The fish caught are spawned at the Priest Rapids hatchery and the resulting offspring released back into the Columbia on the Reach. Go to our bio for a link to more info on KOR and its’ conservation aspects.
