La Paz Fishing Report

As far as I’m concerned October is by far the nicest month to visit southern Baja. The temperature starts to cool down along with the annoying humidity.

The water is cobalt blue with incredible visibility. This bodes well for both free diving as well as scuba. Except on rare occasions the storms are normally behind us, and the North winds are a couple of months away, it’s truly paradise this time of year.

Also it looks like the summer air fares have come down quite a bit. I actually booked a trip to Dallas round trip on American for under $400. That’s less then half from this summer.

Fish Talk

Overall fishing has been good. Not much has changed over the past couple of weeks, with Dorado still plentiful with schools of mixed size. The biggest difference being the fish have put on a few pounds, with the Bulls pushing the 30lb mark.

Offshore around the El Charro seamount, Striped Marlin and Sailfish are stacked up. 3-5 fish per boat is pretty average. Of course most of these fish are released. We’ve had guest actually pulling lures away from fish due to the quantity of fish in the pattern. One boat had a quadruple hook up, that’s just pure chaos.

Still not much on the wahoo scene but the Tuna are making more of a presence, although the bite is not consistent. Chunking dead sardines or strips of squid and some patients will normally payoff.

This is the time of year when the water temperature cooling off enough to energize the wahoo on both the North and South end of Cerralvo.

Hopefully this will develop soon.

Our first charter for the Magdalena bay start next week. I know the bite is on up there as our crew fished while transporting the boats and reported wide open Tuna and Wahoo.

Inshore fishing has been good all summer for small Pargo and grouper. This is a great way to catch some great eating fish and a blast fishing poppers off the rocky points.
