It's no April Fools joke?ĶBIG rainbow trout are being landed on Big Bear Lake. These holdovers have put on some weight over the winter and are making drags sing all over the lake. With no weather or wind in the forecast, once the full moon wanes, look for these fish to go wide open.

Greg White of Yorba Linda and Jeff White of Big Bear Lake both caught trophy fish west of Windy Pt. The Bro's beat the Bows using Rainbow Power Bait and hooked their fish within 15 minutes of each other. Greg's fish came in at 5 lbs. 12 oz., while Jeff's was a hefty 6lbs. 6oz. Both their personal best.

Shore fishing has been good for trout. Use a sliding egg sinker system and present Eagle Claw Nitro, Power Bait and worms off the bottom for some good action along the shore, at Juniper and Windy Pts. Be sure to vary leader length from 1 foot to 4 feet until you find the fish zone. Anglers at the dam have had success with baits suspended at ten feet and also working mini jigs in the same area.

Bob Miller of Big Bear City gets BIG FISH of the week honors. While trolling Trout Alley, with straight mono, Bob landed a 7lbs. 11oz. rainbow on a jointed Rapala.

With surface water temps in the mid 40's, trolling for Rainbow Trout has improved. Trollers using straight mono and either CD or Jointed Rapalas have seen good action. Trollers using lead core at 1 to 3 colors with Luhr Jensen Needlefish and Speed Traps in tow are getting limits.
