Big Bear Lake Fish Report 03-28-2007

Alan Sharp

We are now open for the 2007 season, from dawn to dusk weather permitting. Our launch ramp is available prior to the public launch ramps opening April 1st.

Shore fishing has been productive for Trout the past few weeks as the air and water temps climb. Use a sliding egg sinker system and present Eagle Claw Nitro, Power bait and worms off the bottom for some fair action along the shore, at Juniper and Windy Pts. Be sure to vary leader length from 1 foot to 4 feet until you find the fish zone. Anglers at the dam have had success with baits suspended at ten feet and also working mini jigs in the same area.

With surface water temps in the mid 40's, trolling for Rainbow Trout has been fair. Using lead core at 1 to 3 colors in the Eastern third of the lake has gotten the trollers out there limits in less than two hours. Luhr Jensen "Speed Traps" and "Needlefish" have worked the best.

Once the last of the weather fronts move through look for the trout bite to go wide open in the weeks to come.

Be careful out there! Stay out of the water and off the unstable lake ice. Severe injury or death can result from exposure to very cold water.
