Mountain Hardware & Sports
The Little Truckee River is flowing around 45 cubic feet per second. Water temperature is cooler at this fishery, around 61 degrees due to the cool water releasing from the bottom of Stampede Reservoir. Flows are really low above Stampede Reservoir, around 21 CFS. Water clarity is clear and the best section to fish on the Little Truckee River is between Stampede and Boca.
FLOWS: Between Boca and Stampede 52 CFS
Tips for the Week
Stealth is the name of the game at the Little Truckee right now. Some hatches of pale morning duns and caddis are occuring around 9:30 am. Sight fishing has been the best tactic for anglers at this fishery lately. Anglers should use dry flies tied to 6x tippets, or, be tight line nymphing with short leaders and a light pound test. Because this is a tailwater fishery, anglers can fish it mid-day. Just be sure to check water temperatures where you are fishing.
Suggested Flies
Zebra midges in black, olive or black and red. Size 20 mayfly nymphs are also working well. For dry flies, try a Burke’s Silhouette Dun or an Orange Stimulator
