The fishing has been solid throughout this area
6-17-2022
Chad Burton and Chris Borden
The Upper Kern has been stocked by DFW regularly between Riverside Park and Johnsondale Bridge. The fishing has been solid throughout this area for both stockers and wild trout. Anglers have been scoring fish with light spinning gear and split-shotted salmon eggs, crickets, or panther martins. Fly fishers are using attractor nymphs, streamers, and dry flies in the late afternoon hatches. This week the Upper Kern was stocked in section 4, Riverside Park in Kernville to Powerhouse #3. Next week, Sections 5 and 6 of the Upper Kern are slated for a stocking. In the Lower Kern, the multiple trout plants in May have kept a steady bite going. Trout continue to be caught split-shotted salmon eggs, Chartreuse garlic Powerbait and spinners. Bass can be found in the Lower Kern with soft plastics, jigs, and small crankbaits. Catfish are going for cut baits and nightcrawlers. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River was flowing at 338 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 485 CFS.
