Lobster Season Opener on the Horizon

October 3, 2009 Cortes Bank Lobster Season Opener
We managed to sneak in one day on the Bank before it all went to heck! By the time we tucked our tail between our legs and scurried to San Clemente Island we were looking at 25 knot winds and 12 foot seas.
Our divers had a good day of buggin on the Bank nonetheless with 117 bugs captured up to 8 pounds! And we only have 20 divers aboard, so that's not too shabby.
By late mid afternoon it became apparent that it was time for us to get outta Dodge, so we packed up shop and headed northeast for the 4 and a half hour run to San Clemente.
We just got here a bit ago and now have everyone in the water for a night dive. I can tell you this much...it's nice to be in the calm now after taking the pounding that we did earlier today.
The one cool thing about the Bank today...WE WERE THE ONLY BOAT OUT THERE!

October 4, 2009 San Clemente Island
We spent the morning trying to catch a legal lobster at San Clemente and then decided that despite the windy weather we were heading to Catalina Island for a better opportunity at the Red Rabbits. I'd like to say that it paid off, but not really today as we only ended up with 13 legals aboard today.
Tomorrow were going backside, can't be any worse than today. Wish us luck!

October 5, 2009 Catalina Island
Today, much better than yesterday...it just took us a bit to get on them as our first three dives netted us 12 legals but late this afternoon we had a stop for 23 and now tonight we're doing good with another 20 or so in our bags. Big bugs too, up to 9 pounds!
Tomorrow is a short day for us, but we're going to give it heck in the morning!

October 6, 2009 Catalina Island
Today was a short day as we needed to be back in San Diego by 7:00pm. We made a couple early dives before bugging out. Our gang capture 8 legals this morning, a bit short of what I'd like to have seen come aboard but better than nothing.
We're back out to the back, weather permitting, Wednesday night! The report looks better so we will hope for the best!
