San Pablo Reservoir Angler Report

San Pablo Reservoir
Paul Clouse of Lafayette, Al Hurwitz of Saratoga, and Abbey Lev of Saratoga trolled San Pablo Reservoir on March 10, 2022, looking for Rainbow Trout. Tough day, trolling a variety of Rapalas, a feathered Panther Martin, and Speedy Shiners. Eventually Paul caught a beautiful 3.42 pound Mt. Lassen Rainbow trolling a Speedy Shiner at a depth of 15 feet below the surface just south of the entrance of Scow Canyon in a water column of about 20 feet. Had one other nice strike on the eastern shore halfway between the Scow Canyon entrance and the dam, but the fish didn't stay pinned. We applied plenty of scent to all of the lures. One other boat still-fishing with PowerBait did well, keeping 7 Rainbows. The lake remains stained, and this condition does not lend itself well for trollers. Moderate wind stirred the water a bit, maintaining the stained conditions. Surface water temperature varied from 54-56 degrees. Bait fishermen will do a good deal better right now. In the weeks ahead, though, as the water clarity improves, the trollers also should do well. As usual, the staff were very helpful in getting us on and off the water. Hope to see you soon!
All the best, Al Hurwitz, MD
