The Crooked River is definitely fishing a bit slower after this cold snap. If there’s anything hatching out there it’s either midges or blue wing olives. Dry flies are likely to be tiny, if there are any. When it gets cold you’ll want to target deep slow pools. Small flies will typically receive the most attention and red has been the color of choice due to the slightly off color waters. Midges and small mayfly patterns are the way to go. Tailwater tinies, two bit hookers, and juju baetis in sizes 16 - 20 are great. Pair one of those with a midge and you’ll be golden. Scuds, small stonefly nymphs (think skwala) and caddis larva are also really excellent options. The super cold temperatures aren’t supposed to stay for long, once it warms slightly the fish will be looking to eat.
