It seems only our most hardy anglers are out throwing out a line. We are getting rainbow trout from the Willow Beach Hatchery, and we have been getting some striper activity. Most of the striper action has been along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam.

Up on Lake Mohave the wind keeps most boaters at bay.

While our shoreline has plenty of opportunity for anglers of all skill levels whether it’s trout or stripers our community park is one or our great spots. I have been getting reports of trout being landed by using night crawlers and various spinners along with a couple of trout trap jigs. Anglers that have been targeting stripers have been having some luck with anchovies while the glide baits are proving to bring in some of the larger fish.   Anchovies produce very well, and one just has to toss out a line and wait. this is a very relaxed way to fish. While those throwing lures have to cast over and over to get the presentation for that will bring in your targeted fish.

Our local anglers Jay and Tammy Knapp were fishing from shore in the Big Bend area using anchovies and landed this nice striper. This fish weighed in just under 9 pounds and was 30 and 1/4 inches. Our rotary park area is another great spot along with the nature center. Both of these areas still have a few trout hanging around that are a little more elusive to bring in.

While we are still getting community park stocked weekly. Not much word from the marsh area I am thinking it might be due to the low water levels this time of year. Usually, it’s somewhere close to March before we get more of the gates open from Davis Dam.
