Lake Pardee Fish Report
9-11-2009
Fred Dorman
Present weather conditions are: clear skies with temperatures in the mid 90's today and the rest of the weekend. Look for cooler temperatures and a possibility of showers early next week. The forecast predicts 80's the remainder of the week mild breezes and cool evenings. Water temperatures are currently 67 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 73 degrees at surface in the Marina. Water visibility is clear to 15 feet. Water level dropped another 2 feet since last report making the water level about 15-17 feet below the spill and holding.
BANK FISHING ---- The recreation Area was quiet again this morning. Some folks were working the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse and Stony Point Landing. Rumor has it that the Woodpile has been good lately. The water in the Recreation Area is pretty warm so folks are casting 30 feet out or farther from the shore to end up in the deeper cooler water that the fish prefer. Clear bobbers with power bait suspended 3 to 6 feet below or sliding sinker setups that suspend the bait off the bottom are the ticket. Kastmasters or black/green woolly buggers are very successful right after a plant. Power eggs, maggots and power worms in white are the best, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular. Chartreuse power bait with sparkles is always effective.
TROLLERS----Trollers once again concentrating near the mouth of the River, in front of the Rock Wall, the South end and the Narrows. Last week was quiet after the Derby but those that ventured out got nice limits of Trout and a few Kokanee in short order. The depths for trout have been 20 to 50 feet. Kokanee have been a hanging out bit deeper 30 to 70 feet. Most are tempting them with orange and red hoochies and corn tipped Uncle Larry's copper pops or night crawlers behind Sep's dodgers or medium flashers.
RECENT SUCCESS STORIES----Jory Kleven of West Point and Jerry Chaves of Pineville Or. Got a nice stringer of Trout in the River Arm using power bait and night crawlers.
UPCOMMING EVENTS----The 3rd annual Hot Rod Heaven Car Show will take place here Saturday morning, September 12, 2009. The event is open to the public with a day use fee at the gate. Come and see some beautiful examples of pre 1970s customized vehicles. Lunch may be purchased at the Lake.
Kokanee Power's annual Lake Pardee Team Kokanee Derby held last weekend was a great success, thanks to all the members, participants, volunteers and the Pardee lake Management Team and Staff. For Derby results please check out their website at www.KokaneePower.org
To date 69,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game.
