Lake Pardee Fish Report

Present weather conditions are: high cloud cover and a little humid today with temperatures in the high 70's low 80's. The forecast predicts temperatures much the same throughout next week along with mild breezes and cool evenings. Water temperatures are currently 66 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 72 degrees at surface in the Marina. Water visibility is clear to 15 feet. Water level looks about the same as last report, about 15 feet below the spill and holding.

BANK FISHING ---- The highlight for shore anglers has been the abundance of catfish biting near Rainbow Point and beyond heading towards the Narrows. Some others have had decent luck at the Woodpile and Stony Point Landing. Be sure to use chicken livers for the cats and the standard bait and methods for trout. Most are casting 30 feet or farther out from the shore to end up in the deeper cooler water that the fish prefer. Clear bobbers with power bait suspended 3 to 6 feet below or sliding sinker setups that suspend the bait off the bottom are the ticket. Kastmasters or black/green woolly buggers are very successful right after a plant. Power eggs, maggots and power worms in white are the best still hot, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular. Chartreuse power bait with sparkles is always effective.

TROLLERS----Trollers have been doing well working upstream starting at the Mouth and moving towards Columbia Gulch. Rumor is some larger Kokanee (12 inches) have been taken again in this area at 20 to 50 feet depths using orange and red hoochies and corn tipped Uncle Larry's copper pops behind Sep's medium flashers. The South end along the barrel line has been good for Trout lately using blades and crawlers. Recent reports indicate flashers and night crawlers have been the most effective for Trout at a depth of 20 feet trolling at 1.5 mph with the flashers 20 feet behind the ball.

RECENT SUCCESS STORIES---Catfish Lou and an unidentified cohort continue to outsmart our whiskered friends just south of Mel's cove, chicken livers do the trick. Daniel and Richard of Stockton/Manteca got this 14.3 lb batch of cats off Rainbow Point also with chicken livers. Well done-congratulations to all!

UPCOMMING EVENTS---Kokanee Power's annual Lake Pardee Team Kokanee Derby will be held here Saturday Sept 5th. Come join us for great fun, competition, food and prizes. For further details and entry forms please check out their website at www.KokaneePower.org

To date 68,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with another plant scheduled for the near future.
