The Crooked River has had good fishing over the past week. This week has very little precipitation in the forecast and higher than average temperatures. These conditions should keep the fish pretty active. For hatches, blue wing olives will likely be the most common bug on the water. On warmer days you may see a few caddis. Nymphing is very consistent. Baetis nymphs and midge larvae are always the top choices for winter flies on the Crooked. Eggs are definitely a good idea now that the whitefish are spawning. Small stone flies, caddis larva, and scuds are also good subsurface flies. We could make the plunge into winter any day now, get your lines in the water before it’s frigid.
