Lake Jennings Fishing Report

10-4-2021
Lake Jennings Staff

  • Stocking: The last stocking of 1,000 lbs. was the week of September 13th. The average weight of the stock is about two and a half pounds. Another 1,000 pounds will go into the lake the week of October 4th. For the time being, we will remain open for night fishing on Fridays and Saturdays. For an updated stocking schedule, click HERE.
  • What's the catch? The sunset catfish bite was on fire this weekend. We had reports of bites in Shadow and Sentry Coves on chicken liver and nightcrawlers. The sunfish were active as well. Cloister Cove and the t-dock were good locations.  Cut 'crawlers and wax worms were reeling them in. Bass were biting along the southeastern shoreline of the lake. Watermelon Zoom and Senkos work best for bass in our lake. Don't forget to send us pics of your catch! You can tag us @lakejennings on social media or email them to ranger@lakejennings.org.
  • Trout Season: The first trout stocking of the season is typically in mid to late November. The water temperature must decrease to 72 degrees before our first stocking. A stocking schedule and event details on the Trout Opener will be announced in the coming weeks.
  • Fireside by the Lake: Firepits are available for rent in Hermit Cove on October 15th, 6:00-9:00 pm. Firewood, fire starter, and Adirondack chairs are provided. S'mores kits that include graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate, and roasting sticks are available for purchase. All you need to bring is a blanket and good company! To reserve a firepit, click HERE.
  • Conditions: The current temperature is 78 degrees. The aerator is on, so the temperature in the water column is fairly steady throughout with variances no more than a few degrees. New Moon is October 6th. For a complete weather report in Lakeside, click HERE.
  • Carve & Catch - BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin)! We're offering a FREE FISHING PERMIT or day use access if you bring a carved pumpkin on Friday, October 22 & Friday, October 29. We'll light and display the jack-o-lanterns around the bait shop for night fishing. Pumpkins will not be returned and permits valid for Friday night only. Help the rangers light up the lake and trick out the bait shop!
  • Job Openings: We're hiring dockhands at the lake! We are looking for part-time dockhands to work on the dock and help care for and maintain our boat rental fleet. Must have an excellent customer service ethic and work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as well as most holidays. If you are interested in finding out more information regarding this position, visit the Helix Water District's Career Page.
  • Spooky Camp-O-Ween: It's back! The last 2 weekends at the campground in October are reserved for the frightfully fun, ghoulish good times! The campground is full the first weekend of Spooky Camp-O-Ween. Campsites are available for the second weekend of October 29-31. Don't miss out on the campsite decorating contest, creepy crafts, spooky scavenger hunt, and more! Reserve your campsite today.
