Lake Jennings Weekly Report

9-28-2021
Lake Jennings Staff

  • Stocking: The last stocking of 1,000 lbs. was the week of September 13th. The average weight of the stock is about two and a half pounds. Another 1,000 pounds will go into the lake the week of October 4th. For the time being, we will remain open for night fishing on Fridays and Saturdays. For an updated stocking schedule, click HERE.
  • What's the catch? Catfish limits were pulled out of Hermit Cove this weekend. Our rangers recommend fishing the shallows for catfish especially early evening into night. Cast about 10-12 feet from shore where the cats will be feeding. They'll bite on just about anything, but fishermen reported using nightcrawlers this weekend. The bass bite is more prolific first thing in the morning and at twilight. Anglers are using top water lures. Panfish are biting in the reeds near Eagle Point. Half Moon Cove was a popular spot too. We had reports of redear sunfish and crappie on cut  nightcrawlers near the t-dock. Don't forget to send us pics of your catch! You can tag us @lakejennings on social media or email them to ranger@lakejennings.org.
  • Fireside by the Lake: Firepits are available for rent in Hermit Cove on October 15th, 6:00-9:00 pm. Firewood, fire starter, and Adirondack chairs are provided. S'mores kits that include graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate, and roasting sticks are available for purchase. All you need to bring is a blanket and good company! To reserve a firepit, click HERE.
  • Conditions: The current temperature is 78 degrees. The aerator is on, so the temperature in the water column is fairly steady throughout with variances no more than a few degrees. New Moon is October 6th. The district will continue filling the lake through the end of the week. For a complete weather report in Lakeside, click HERE.
  • Carve & Catch - BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin)! We're offering a FREE FISHING PERMIT or day use access if you bring a carved pumpkin on Friday, October 22 & Friday, October 29. We'll light and display the jack-o-lanterns around the bait shop for night fishing. Pumpkins will not be returned and permits valid for Friday night only. Help the rangers light up the lake and trick out the bait shop!
  • Job Openings: We're hiring dockhands at the lake! We are looking for part-time dockhands to work on the dock and help care for and maintain our boat rental fleet. Must have an excellent customer service ethic and work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as well as most holidays. If you are interested in finding out more information regarding this position, visit the Helix Water District's Career Page.
  • Spooky Camp-O-Ween: It's back! The last 2 weekends at the campground in October are reserved for the frightfully fun, ghoulish good times! Join us October 22-24 or October 29-31 for campsite decorating, creepy crafts, spooky scavenger hunt, and more! Campsites are filling up quickly! Reserve yours today.
