Lava Lakes fishing is poor

Lava Lakes fishing is poor. As mentioned last week, there was an over-winter fish kill event that has noticeably decreased the amount of fish in the lake. Warm water temperatures are certainly not improving the situation. Despite this, there are still a few fish in the lakes. If you do decide to give it a try, fish deep, treat the fish well and release them fast. Try terrestrials and callibaetis on the surface. Balanced leeches, callibaetis and dark assassins are good subsurface flies. We will need a few good snow years to get the lakes back into their former shape. With some luck, we will have better reports next spring. We will not be reporting on the Lava Lakes for the remainder of the summer.
