The Upper Deschutes Has Been Fishing Well
7-9-2021
Fly and Field Outfitters
The Upper Deschutes has been fishing well. The heat wave has likely pushed some of the fish from Crane into the cooler stream waters. I would expect to see the number of fish in the system increase as we move through the summer. Dry fly action is best in the mornings and evenings. Pale morning duns and caddis are the main hatches, but terrestrials, golden stones and a few blue winged olives are also out. Nymph action has been good with small size 16 - 20 mayfly nymphs, midges and jigged euro style flies. As always, target the structure. Deep pools can also hold a lot of fish. Even though the water is cool, make sure you release fish quickly during hot weather. Hopefully we get some relief from the heat in the next couple weeks.
