Trout Bite is Still Insane

7-9-2021
Big Bear Marina

The trout bite is STILL insane! The summer heat does not seem to be slowing them down yet. The best action is still near the dam and close to the surface. Wedding rings with half a crawler seem to be the ticket for trollers, but small spoons and Rapalas are also bringing them in. Monofilament is all you need, but if you’re running leadcore you only need to put in one to one and a half colors. From the shoreline, Rooster Tails, Kastmasters and various other lures are still bringing in limits. Hanging the bait of your choice from a bobber will potentially fill a stringer as well. If fly fishing is more your style then I’ve got good news! That’s working too!

The bass seem to be a little finicky, but small, weedless swimbaits and Texas or Carolina rigged creature baits will draw them out of the rock structure and weedlines. Deep diving crank baits are a good option in less weedy locations.

Now is the time of the year to find those big cats prowling around after midnight. Frozen mackerel, shrimp, or chicken livers are the best bait choices. There are some monsters in there, so be sure to bring out the big game tackle.

Big Bear Lake

This August, Big Bear guests won’t need to fret about the cost of high gas prices because Big Bear Visitors Bureau (BBVB) rewards its guests who book an overnight stay a FREE $25 gas card. To receive the...... Read More
