Jess Ranch Lakes Staff

After two months of unseasonable cool weather, the heat was on this week with anglers using Power Bait ( especially salmon peach, garlic and spring green), night crawlers, jigs and lures to catch their trout. Best bite was before 10am with most trout near or over two pounds. Hot spots included the eastern logged shore and the western shore of lake 3 near the pump house or the bridge of lake 3 as well as the northern and south eastern shores of lake 2. Catfish were very active and biting Power Bait ( anglers fishing for trout), night crawlers and shrimp. Lots of limits went out with most catfish weighing between 2 and 3 pounds. Hot spots for catfish included the western and northern shores of lake 2 and the western shore of lake 3 from the drain to the pump house. Bass were hitting senkos and spinner bait on the western and eastern shores of lake 2 and the western shore of lake 3 from pump house to northern shore of lake 3. Bluegill bite is still slow but a few are hitting meal worms on the eastern shore of lake 2.

To celebrate our country\'s birthday, we\'ll put some tagged fish into the big lakes and Angling Pond for the weekend. Catch a tagged trout or catfish and win a prize!

Catches of the Week:
Brett Orr of Apple Valley caught a 3 lbs rainbow on a white crappie jig on the northern shore of lake 2. Barstow angler, Gary Chinn reeled in a catfish that weighed 5 lbs to catch his limit from the western shore of lake 3 near the pump house. He used an inflated night crawler and fished with his friend Ben Dado, also of Barstow, who also limited and used garlic Power Bait. Mark Lockhart of Palmdale caught a 3 lbs 2 ozs rainbow on an orange Power Worm while fishing the eastern logged shore of lake 3. Garrett Orcutt of Corona reeled in a 3 lbs 8 ozs trout using garlic Power Bait from the western shore of lake 2.

The Lakes\' Hatchery stocks trout every Friday year round. We will also stock 1000 pounds of catfish every Thursday throughout the summer.

This year the Lakes\' hatchery is amping up the weekly trout stockings with bigger fish overall. Hours: Wednesday through Sunday--7am to 4pm. For more information call (760)240-1107 or go to www.lakejennings.org
