Mother Nature is Just Not Letting go of Winter!

Mother Nature is just not letting go of winter – snow on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday along with some rain and there’s more (along with wind) coming in for next weekend – so if you’re heading this way – PACK YOUR WOOLIES!

There’s news about the campgrounds. Bishop Park and The Forks have switched over to 100% reservation thru www.recreation.gov. . Four Jeffery, also, has reservable campsites and first-come-first-serve spots. The lower part of Intake 2 campground has opened as first-come-first-serve and BitterBrush and Big Trees are first-come-first-serve. Sabrina Camp and Willow Camp are both still closed as it’s still cold up here and more cold to come. Not sure about North Lake, but when it opens it has become a dry camp – no potable water. Just an FYI – the bears are waking up and there’s a BIG one roaming thru Aspendell knocking over the big green trash bins and prying the lids open – please store your food properly and DON’T feed the bears or the deer.

Catching has remained on the slow side. NightCrawlers and PowerBait are still the top Lake Sabrina baits. Gary Burke was able to coax a nice 2-1/4 pounder out using a NightCrawler. Daniel Sr. and Daniel Jr. Maldonado worked together using “a rod” with some Garlic PowerBait to bring in dinner and made some awesome memories!

Those that were catch fish were using the old standbys – NightCrawlers, Mini Jigs, PowerBait, MiceTails and the Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant.

Currently, private boats can launch from dirt. No parking down in the Lake bottom.

Still haven’t heard an update on the trail with the weather we have had, but more than likely you’ll hit a bit of snow on the Sabrina Basin Trail leading up towards Blue Lake. Please be careful out there and leave an itinerary of where you’re heading, what you’re wearing and about what time you intend on returning to your ride.

I wouldn’t say Winter is back, but definitely cooler temps are in store and a chance of precipitation and don’t forget those breezes – not sure if it will be liquid or solid. You can check the forecast yourself at www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA and scroll down a bit for the temps and forecast up our way.
