Memorial Day Weekend- Catfish Season Opener
5-17-2021
Lake Jennings Staff
- Catfish Season Opener! Join us Memorial Day weekend, May 28-31 where 2,000 pounds of catfish will be stocked in the lake. Boat rentals will be available. Full sized lanterns are required. We've stocked up on bait, lures, and tackle in the bait shop in preparation for catfish season. We will stock a total of 10,000 pounds this season. For an updated stocking schedule, click HERE.
- What's the catch? The cooler temps have kept the water cool and anglers are still catching trout. If you're looking to reel a few in, try using powerbait or nightcrawlers and you'll likely take a few home. Hermit Cove and Sentry Point, cast out to about 8-10 ft. depth for trout. The bluegill and redear bite is picking up quick. They aren't swimming in the shallows yet so cast out a little bit and put a mealworm or wax worm on your hook. Cloister Cove and Half Moon shoreline reeled in multiple bass at all hours of the day. Drop shot and worms with red flake were working. Catfish were hitting on Friday night in Siesta and Cloister Coves. Mackerel and dough bait were doing the trick.
- WE'RE HIRING! We are currently hiring Dockhands at Lake Jennings. Dockhands provide excellent customer service, maintain the boat rental fleet, and other duties as assigned. These positions are part-time and typically work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and most holidays. For more information about the Dockhand position, visit Helix Water District's careers page.
- Reel In & Recycle: In partnership with California State Parks, the California Coastal Commission, and the California Boating Clean and Green Program we have installed fishing line recycling stations at Eagle Point, Hermit Coves 1 & 2, the t-dock, and boat launch ramp. All line disposed of in these stations will be collected periodically and recycled. As of December 2020, The Clean and Green Boating Programs throughout the state have collected and recycled 1,975 pounds of fishing line. Stretched out, this line would reach from San Francisco to Panama!
- Fireside at the Lake: The next date to book a firepit is May 21st! The base price for a firepit is $48 for 4 people. Advanced reservations are required. Rentals include firepit, wood, firestarter, and Adirondack chairs. Ask about our add on packages! Firepits are available for single households only, 4-6 persons. For more information, call 619-596-1306.
- Campground News: We are now renting cornhole sets for the weekend (Friday & Saturday night) to registered campers. Sets include two boards and 8 bags. They are $40 for the whole weekend. We will deliver the set to your campground and pick it up on Sunday upon departure. Call the campground at 619-596-1306 to reserve yours today. Sets are first come, first served.
- Conditions: The aerator has been turned on for the season, so as the water circulates the temps in the water column will level out. The current temperature is 68 degrees. Transparency is 33 feet. For a complete weather report in Lakeside, click HERE.
- We love receiving pictures from our fishermen and campers! If you have a picture to share, please send it to ranger@lakejennings.org and we may feature it in our newsletter or social media pages.
